The other groups Navratilova supports are listed on her Web site, www.martinanavratilova.com, but her biggest effort these days is for the Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC), an international religious organizationbased in Abilene, Texas. MCC has churches worldwide that espouse an open and affirming stance toward homosexuality. For the MCC, Navratilova has set the ambitious goal of raising $10 million for an endowment to fund its human rights work worldwide. Only a handful of nonprofits ever reach that mark, but her celebrity buys access to those who can open their checkbooks as effortlessly as she knocks off volleys. As part of that effort, Merrill Lynchhas signed on to manage the MCC endowment.
